Doug Hinrichs is currently playing percussion in the Broadway show IN THE HEIGHTS. In addition to his position in this highly successful show, Doug gigs and records in and around New York City with countless artists. He is the inventor of LP’s One-Handed Triangle, which was introduced to rave reviews at the NAMM show in January of 2010.
After his arrival in the New York City area, Doug immediately became ubiquitous in R&B circles and the house/dance scene. Jingle work followed, with commercial sessions for ESPN, Miller Lite Beer, Powerade, and The New York Knicks, among others. He has toured with Interscope artists Burlap to Cashmere, and composed music for various television shows.
In 2007, Doug immersed himself in Afro-Caribbean music while living in Guadeloupe, where he was coached in the rhythms of gwoka music. A month-long residency in Trinidad followed in 2008, allowing him to consume and incorporate the rhythms of Orisa and other folkloric Trinidadian music.
Doug’s additional Broadway credits include THE LION KING, BROOKLYN, and TARZAN.
